Patrick Mahomes Embracing Being The Villain

By CJ Carlson

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are entering the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers as the “villains”. There are so many people out there that dislike them and would prefer they lose. Instead of shying away from that role, Mahomes is embracing it.

Mahomes was asked if he’s becoming a villain to other NFL fan bases around the league, and he said that he can “definitely sense it” in comparison to how he started his career. He continued by saying, “I never felt like that because I’ve never been like that in my entire life. But it’s become a little bit funny. I don’t want to say you enjoy it.

I know the Patriots had that for a while. I’m hoping we do it in a different way with a little bit more fun and personality with it. But as long as you keep winning, teams start to not like you, and I want to keep winning. So, if that means some of the other teams and other fan bases aren’t going to like me, I’ll try to still have a smile on my face and not be a bad example, but I can be that villain for them if they need me to be.”

Patrick Mahomes And The Chiefs Are Hated For More Than Just Winning

The Chiefs aren’t just disliked because of their dominance on the field though. There are a lot of fans out there that haven’t liked the type of attention they’ve received due to Travis Kelce getting into a relationship with Taylor Swift. Fans disagree with how often Swift is shown on screen, and that it’s turning the Chiefs franchise into more of a glamorous, Hollywood type of one as opposed to a gritty football one. There was also a dislike for how Mahomes handled a regular season loss against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

He didn’t agree with an offsides call that was (correctly) made and went ballistic on the sidelines. Not only that, but he continued to complain about it with Allen when the game ended, while Allen was simply trying to say, “good game” and move on. It was certainly a bad look for a quarterback that usually doesn’t lose very often.

Of course, though, winning plays the largest factor of it all. Nobody wants to see the same team winning over and over again, unless you’re a fan of that specific team. However, Mahomes is aware of all of these things and wants to get out there and make them even more mad by winning another Super Bowl.
