Wednesday 2/7/24 – Tampa Bay Downs Race 5
Happy Wednesday everyone, and you know if it’s Wednesday, we make a stop down to Oldsmar, Florida for another edition of Quills Picks Winners. We are on the turf for today’s fifth race, which is a one-mile race on the turf course. Weather is looking good for Wednesday, so as of when I looked at this race, this race appears to be running on the turf course.
Before we get to today’s race, we do have a couple of curve balls here for this field of fourteen. The 11 Aferdita (3/1 morning line) and the 12 Drill’s Valentine (10/1 ML) are both entered for the main track only. The 13 Nicolar (10/1) and 14 Panotti (5/1) are also eligible.
The 2 Cloud Storage (5/2 ML favorite) drops back to claimers here having won at this level two back going longer at Tampa. She looks tough here as she will be not far from the pace and ready to pounce.
Toss the last race for the 9 Sing Scat (6/1 ML) as that race was taken off the turf. She has been on the lead, and if she’s on the lead here, it is very possible that she goes gate to wire here, though she will have fillies and mares coming from all directions at the end.
The 5 High Vibes (4/1 ML) also drops to this level today and we can toss the last race as well. She was outside last time out, and might get a better trip here.
Keep an eye on the 4 Irazu (10/1 ML) who could be on the board here. She is back at this level after winning in July at Tampa. That last race did not look good but she could bounce back today.
I’m going to go with the 9 here, Sing Scat. I can’t ignore a horse that is trained by Jamie Ness. He wins about 20% of the time he enters his horses and should get this filly back on track. Let’s call it 9-2-4-5, and my play is $20 to win on the 9. Good luck everyone, and I’ll catch you tomorrow with another Quills Picks Winners.
