Thursday 2/1/24 – Gulfstream Park Race 8
We head across the state to Gulfstream Park for today’s QPW as we will look at the eighth race on their card, which is an optional 50k claimer going five and a half furlongs on the synthetic. We have a field of nine that is entered for this race which will go off at approximately 3:39 pm Eastern time.
Extendo (#1, 5/2 morning line favorite) draws the rail here, and he is coming off a tough loss in a $100k turf stakes race where he led all the way around until the final portion of the race. Most of his wins have been on the front end, so it won’t be much of a surprise to see him setting the fractions here.
The 9 Loco Abarrio (9/2 ML) is run three times on the synthetic and has run second all three times. He’s coming back to the Tapeta and looking to stalk right on the outside.
The 8 Mamba On Three (4/1 ML) went to the front last time out in these same race conditions, but he’s not usually at the front. He’s usually a length or two back at the start and I expect the latter from him today as well.
The 2 Nichiren (5/1 ML) was claimed last time out going five furlongs on the Tapeta, and he could be on the lead, but he’s been a couple lengths off the front last time out in a very fast opening quarter. It will be interesting to see where he is.
I’m going to go with the 9 here stalking the leader and pouncing in the stretch to win here. I’ll call this 9-1-8-2 and my play is $20 to win on the 9. Best of luck everyone and I’ll see you tomorrow with another Quills Picks Winners.
