Three Sleeper 2024 MVP Candidates

This season showcases a lot of new young talent in the MLB. Here’s a look at some players that can put together an MVP caliber season that are flying under the radar. Included will be the consensus betting odds as well for each player to win the award.

American League

Adley Rutschman – Baltimore Orioles +1600

The Baltimore Orioles come in as many people’s favorites to win the AL East and also to win the American League Pennant as a whole. Their young core has turned into a superstar level lineup and leading the pack is their backstop Adley Rutschman. Rutschman earned his first All Star appearance in 2023, and looks to help lead the Orioles back to the postseason. The young catcher looks to have another big campaign this year, and is certainly a dark horse candidate for the MVP award, especially if the Orioles have similar success.

Bobby Witt Jr. – Kansas City Royals +1300

The Royals look to contend in the AL Central this season, and to do so they’ll need a huge year from Bobby Witt Jr. Witt, similar to Adley Rutschman, is still very young in the league, but this is a big year for him to solidify his stardom within the league. Witt is one of the fastest base runners in the sport and the value of all his attributes are common knowledge to ball clubs across the league. Witt will look to have another 30 home run, 30 stolen base season, and help take the Royals to the postseason through putting together an MVP campaign.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – Toronto Blue Jays +2200

The MLB The Show 2024 cover athlete is the last sleeper pick out of the AL. With +2200 odds the value is incredible here. Guerrero along with Bo Bichette are the stars of that Blue Jays team in a stacked AL East. One of them will have to put up an MVP level year if they want to contend for the division title. Guerrero’s power will need to be on full display for him to take this award this season. He’ll look to return to 2021 form where he nearly took the triple crown, falling short of the MVP to Shohei Ohtani.

National League

Matt Olson – Atlanta Braves +1400

Matt Olson came to Atlanta with big shoes to fill after Freddie Freeman previously held the spot at the first base corner. He’s met and exceeded expectations from Braves fans as he’s hit 88 home runs in two seasons with the ball club. Olson’s coming off of a 50+ home run season that landed him fourth in the National League MVP voting. Olson will look to continue his success with Atlanta, and take the MVP in 2024.

Fernando Tatis Jr. – San Diego Padres +1000

One player in the NL you should never count out of MVP voting is Fernando Tatis. Jr. Tatis has finished top five in MVP voting twice in his career before this season, and looks to return to his 2020-21 form. If healthy, Tatis has all the tools to put together a great year offensively. On top of that, Tatis has developed into a solid outfielder, and his glove can also play a part in him possibly winning the award.

Corbin Carroll – Arizona Diamondbacks +2000

The 2023 NL Rookie of the Year looks to make even bigger strides in 2024. Carroll played a huge role in the Diamondbacks run to the World Series last season, and will undoubtedly be relied upon more in this revamped lineup. Carroll looks to build on his .285 average from last season, where he hit 25 home runs and tallied 54 stolen bases. Carroll’s offense numbers were solid but his speed is his most valuable trait, and he looks to improve upon his league leading ten triples from last season. At +2000 odds, the young phenom certainly holds a ton of value to win this award, especially if the Diamondbacks have similar success this season.
