Alabama Shocks Georgia to Win SEC Championship

Kirby Smart was 0-2 against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game going into today. A win for Alabama would put them in the driver’s seat for a shot at the CFP Semifinals. Georgia need the win in order to solidify an opportunity for a third straight National Championship.

But Nick Saban decided to be Nick Saban and show up when it counted.

Jalen Milroe threw for 192 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while two wideouts stepped in when the pressure was put on Iron Bowl Hero Isaiah Bond as the Alabama Crimson Tide rocked the CFP’s perfect plan by handing Georgia its first loss in two years 27-24 to clinch the SEC Championship.

The win not only shakes up who will be the overall No. 1 in the country tomorrow, but it also allows Alabama the impact statement it needs to possibly catapult them as well as Texas into the College Football Playoff.

Both teams finish the season 12-1, but like Ohio State, Georgia is not entering the final ranking as champions. But there is still more football left to play as we try to decipher who will be the final four.

The Big Ten Championship will be decided as Iowa looks to take down Michigan for the crown. A loss for Michigan possibly opens the door for Ohio State. Louisville locks up with Florida State for the ACC Championship, and with questions at quarterback, can the Noles possibly keep their own momentum going?

The bottom line on all of this is that the Committee’s job just got harder as they will have to at least entertain the idea of Alabama, Texas, and Georgia when it comes to the Final Four. We have had this issue before, and shockingly, Alabama was a part of it as they did not win the SEC Championship but were still able to win the BCS National Championship that year.

Carson Beck finished with 243 yards but zero touchdowns for the Bulldogs as their infamous 2-year winning streak came to a dramatic end. Georgia will have to hope that the voters will give them the nod of the semifinals and hope that they can move past the Buckeyes who didn’t even get to play in their conference championship game at all.
