Philadelphia Phillies Team Bus Involved In Accident After Red Sox Game

By CJ Carlson

One of the team buses for the Philadelphia Phillies was involved in an accident following a game against the Boston Red Sox on Monday. The accident was reported to have taken place at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida. The bus had both players and staff on board, but thankfully there weren’t any reported injuries. Among the notable players on board were Edmundo Sosa, Johan Rojas, and Yunior Marte.

It appears that the bus was rear-ended by another car as they were entering onto the highway. The bus didn’t suffer much damage at all, while the car had damage that was quoted to be “visible”. Despite it being fortunate that nobody was injured, it was still a very annoying inconvenience for them overall. They had to be delayed for an hour as they awaited Florida Highway Patrol. When they finished up, the bus got back on track and headed down to their training facility in Clearwater.

Philadelphia Phillies Just Lost

To make matters worse, Philadelphia was coming home from a loss as well. The Red Sox beat them 7-6, dropping the Phillies to a 2-1 record in the Grapefruit league. The positive of that loss was that it didn’t take long for newly signed Whit Merrifield to make his mark. He smashed his first home run with the since signing.

As for the pitching, the team sent out David Buchanan on the mound first. He pitched just two innings and gave up four hits and two runs, each listed as earned. He did strike two batters out but walked another. It was his first spring training outing, so there could have been some adjustment needed. Overall, the accident wound up being a frustrating end to a disappointing loss. At least nobody was injured, and they were able to get back to their schedule after about an hour delay.
