New York Yankees Top Prospect Has Huge Debut

New York Yankees Top Prospect Smashes Home Run

The New York Yankees were well aware of the talent that they have with Spencer Jones. He’s their top prospect entering Spring Training, and he gave us a reminder as to why. Jones blasted away a home run against the Detroit Tigers in the fifth inning of their spring matchup.

Jones stepped up to the plate against Mason Englert on the mound and made sure to leave a mark. It wasn’t just your standard homer though. Jones launched this ball into the sky, and it was estimated that it traveled 470 feet, landing over the bullpens.

It wasn’t just the Yankees that wanted Jones in the past few months. When the team was in talks to try and acquire Juan Soto, Jones had his name pop up in conversations quite a bit. Other teams were hoping to steal him away in the past as well. For example, the Yankees were hoping to try and trade for Corbin Burnes, but the Milwaukee Brewers were consistent in asking for Jones in any trade package. The same thing happened with Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox.

New York Yankees Love What They Have In Jones

It didn’t matter what the trade package was though, the Yankees refused to move their top prospect and are already starting to see some returns on that investment. Jones spent the season in Double-A Somerset in 2023 and had a solid year. He posted numbers of .267/.336/.444/.780 with 16 home runs to go with it. Not to mention he racked up 66 RBIs and four trips with 29 doubles. Given that New York refuses to move him, you can heavily expect him to be in their long-term plans moving forward.

If they’ve refused to hand him away for any of the other aforementioned names, then it’s hard to believe that they ever choose to do so. It might take a ridiculously large haul to pry him away. A haul that no other team wants to match at this point in Jones’ professional car
