2024 Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Oaks Fields
Tarifa (7/2 morning line) favored in Kentucky Oaks, Fierceness (5/2) morning line favorite in Derby
Unbeknownst to me, the fields for the Kentucky Oaks and Derby were announced on Saturday. We have a full field of 14 with two also eligibles entered for Friday’s Kentucky Oaks, while we have a full field of 20 horses and two also eligibles in the Kentucky Derby for the first Saturday of May at Churchill Downs.
The Oaks at first glance looks to be a wide open race with the 8 Tarifa the 7/2 morning line favorite for the Kentucky Oaks for this Friday, May 3. Leslie’s Rose drew the far outside (14 post) and is the 4/1 morning line second choice. The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Champion Just F Y I is the third choice at 9/2 odds, while the 5 Thorpedo Anna and the 11 Ways And Means are co-fourth choices at 5/1 odds. Fierceness drew the 17 post for the Kentucky Derby and is the 5/2 morning line favorite for the Run for the Roses. Second choice #2 Sierra Leone is the 3/1 second choice and the 4 Catching Freedom is the 8/1 third choice. All other entrants are 10/1 odds or higher.
The also eligible horses Epic Ride and Mugatu will need horses to scratch by 9 am on Friday morning to run in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The field, jockey and odds are:
