College Baseball Recap: FAU 6 – Maine 4

FAU continues to keep their win streak rolling against Maine. The Owls won their fourth straight game Saturday evening, coming back from a four run deficit in the ninth to put up a six spot and win off of a walk-off grand slam from Christian Adams. The Owls positioned themselves to possibly earn the series sweep Sunday, going into another power five matchup at UCF.

Maine got the scoring started in the third inning, taking a 3-0 lead, two of which came from first baseman Jeremiah Jenkins home run. They would add another run in the fourth, but that would be the all the scoring in the game up until the Owls rally in the ninth.

Trey Beard went 2.2 innings in his start. Beard would give up three earned runs, seven hits, but strikeout five in the process. While Beard didn’t have his best stuff today, the bullpen would have his back. Max Martzolf and Brandon Smith would put together great outings. Smith would go 3.0 innings pitched and gave up no runs for those final three innings of the game.

Jalen DeBose picked up right where he left off from the previous game, as a single from HIM helped spark a rally with the Owls. Andrew McKenna, would get the Owls on the board with an RBI single, and a hit-by-pitch would score another to make it 4-2. That brought up senior infielder Christian Adams who would fall behind early in a 0-1 count. However, the next pitch was taken deep over the right field wall for a walk-off grand slam to secure the 6-4 win.

The Owls improved their record to 11-6 following the thrilling win, while Maine suffered the heartbreaking loss, losing their third straight. While the Owls can come out of Sunday’s game three with a series sweep, Maine will look to win their third game of the season before going into conference play.

The Owls will give the ball to Tyler Murphy for the start. Murphy looks to do what C.J. Williams did Friday, and improve upon his undefeated 2-0 record, and his 1.93 ERA. The Owls will look to carry their momentum over from their ninth inning rally in game two, and move their record up to 12-6.
