FAU travels up to Memphis following their first AAC series win against Charlotte last weekend. The Owls come into this series with a 14-8 record, while Memphis comes in with a 12-15 record. It’ll be the first time both of these teams meet, and the Owls look to get back on track after suffering a blowout loss in the final game against Charlotte on Sunday.
The Owls offense remains headlined by John Schroeder and Spencer Rich. The two remain as the only players on the Owls roster with an average of .300 or better. FAU’s young guys have also continued to have success within the Owls offense. Patrick Ward has been consistently hitting when given the chance, and will look to build off of his solid performance in the series against Charlotte. Jake Millan had a great series against Charlotte as well, and will look to keep being an on base machine in the series against Memphis.
For Memphis, it’s been a struggle in the early goings of the season. The Tigers dropped two of their first three AAC games against South Florida. They also dropped a game last week to Lipscomb, and will look to get back on track against the Owls in this series.
They’ll look towards two batters in the lineup to hopefully propel them to a series victory: Daunte Stuart and Pierre Seals. Stuart leads the Tigers in batting average with a .336 average and Seals closely follows with a .330 average.
On the mound for the Owls, all eyes are on C.J. Williams and Tyler Murphy. Both starters remain undefeated going into this series and look to improve upon their records. Murphy looks to build upon his 1.80 ERA as well. Trey Beard will get the start in the final game of the series, and will look to bounce back after his start against Charlotte in the final game loss.
FAU looks to take this series before their biggest test next week. The Owls will take on Miami once again in Boca Raton. Following that matchup, they’ll welcome in the currently 15th ranked East Carolina Pirates. It’ll be the second top 15 matchup the Owls will have this season, and a series win against Memphis this weekend would give them great momentum going into next week.
