Series Beatdown Recap: FAU Sweeps Away Maine

FAU came into game three Sunday afternoon, with a series win already secured courtesy of Christian Adams’ walk off Grand Slam from the night before. In game three, the Owls would consistently score runs across the course of the game, and secure the series sweep, improving their record to 12-6.

Tyler Murphy put together a shut-out start for the Owls. While he began his start slightly struggling with his command, he’d settle in to get out of each inning unharmed. Murphy finished his start with 5.0 innings pitched, three hits given up, no runs earned, three strikeouts, and three walks. Reliever Sam Drumheller would come in and deliver a solid outing, going the remainder of the game, 2.0 innings pitched, allowing no runs, and only one hit.

The Owls offense would hit the ball hard the entire game, with singles being the primary source of their runs. The score would start to be broken open in the bottom of the third inning. Back to back to back singles from Brando Leroux, Christian Adams, and John Schroeder, would score one and put runners at the corners. Carter Brady would come up to bat and record a productive ground-out that scored Adams from third, making it a 3-0 game.

The Owls would plate two more runs in the fifth and the sixth, one off of a John Schroeder RBI single and another that came from an Andrew McKenna ground-out. In the seventh, Emilio Gonzalez hit a rope by the diving second baseman to score two more runs, giving FAU a 7-0 lead. Patrick Ward would then follow it up with an RBI single of his own to extend the lead to 8-0.

Brando Leroux would then end the game when he came up and hit a two run single to secure the Owls 10-0 win on the run-rule. The shortstop had a great day at the plate, going 3-5, recording 2 RBIs, and tallying two stolen bases.

The Owls now look ahead to Tuesday, where they’ll travel up to Orlando to take on UCF. The Owls look to get one back from UCF, and improve their record to 13-6 going into conference play.

“We just got to play well, we got to pitch well … they pitched exceptionally well against us, we’ve got to be ready offensively to swing the bats,” Coach John McCormack said post-game regarding the game against UCF on Tuesday.

The Owls will head into conference play following the game against UCF. They’ll host Charlotte for a weekend series at FAU Baseball Stadium.
