Tyson Fury was forced to delay his big match against Oleksandr Usyk after he sustained a huge cut over his right eye during a sparring session. The fight was supposed to take place on February 17th and was going to be for the title of the undisputed heavyweight champion. Now, it’s been reported that Fury’s cut is still giving him problems.

It’s worth noting as well that Fury and Usyk were set to box on December 23rd initially, and after Fury pulled out of that date, they rescheduled to February. Right now, it certainly feels like this match could be one that might not ever come. However, both fighters want to make this happen, the problem is Fury’s cut. It was revealed that Fury would need extra precautions in place to avoid re-opening the cut over his eye. It’s become widely believed that the injury won’t fully heal in time for the rescheduled match on May 18th, and that’s going to be a massive weakness for him.

Tyson Fury Needs Eye To Fully Recover

Fury’s corner has full faith in his ability to fight with the cut not fully healed, and that he fully understands how to box with his distance to avoid getting caught. Although, all it would take it just one hit to that right eye to completely change the outcome of the fight. It’s something that Usyk would absolutely target given the advantage it would provide him.

Derek Chisora chimed in on Fury’s cut and said that he’s likely going to need to change his boxing style in order to get out there against Usyk. He said, “Fury is going to have to box. He can’t stand there because his eye is not healed yet. Under the eye is still cut. I know that Usyk is going to be training to tag the eye to get it to open the eye up. So, it’s going to be a bloodbath.

Yes, with the way he wants it all now, totally different.” Chisora mentioned briefly that Fury “wants it all” and this could be in reference to his aggressive style as of late. We’ve seen him be more of an attacker in the ring under SugarHill Steward, and that trend was on its way to continue until this injury. For Fury, it’s either changing your style or risk getting the eye busted open early.
