Recap: FAU 15 – Maine 2

FAU opened up their final weekend non-conference series last night against America East opponent Maine. The Owls continued to click as a group, and recorded 15 runs on 14 hits to win their third straight game.

C.J. Williams picked up his fourth win of the season following his start in the series opener. Williams went 6.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts, no walks, and limited the damage to two runs. His ability to settle into the game and not get rattled by early runs has been huge for the Owls success in every one of his starts. Williams continues to put together consistently solid outings for the Owls, and he remains a perfect 4-0 so far on the season.

The bullpen was phenomenal yet again, giving up no runs in the three innings they were needed for relief. Danny Trehey kept his 0.00 ERA intact and now has pitched 14.1 innings without giving up a run. Trehey came into the game in the seventh and struck out the side and gave up no hits. Sam Drumheller and Justin Gay pitched the last two innings of the game, and struck out four while giving up one hit.

The Owls were highlighted offensively by center fielder Jalen DeBose. DeBose recorded three hits and four RBIs with a home run and a double. The Owls had four other batters record multiple hits in the game as well, with  Andrew McKenna, John Schroeder, and Christian Adams combining for seven RBIs.

The bats continued to stay hot for the Owls, as they reverted back to their small ball style of offense to tally their 15 runs. Seven of those 15 runs came from singles, and despite going down early, the Owls bats showed grit yet again to pile on runs the rest of the game.

FAU looks to take the series Saturday in game two. Trey Beard will get the start for the Owls, looking to bounce back after his last start against FIU where he gave up four in three innings of work. If the Owls can keep up this level of offensive production, there should be no reason to not to be confident going into game two.
