Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese III scores WNBA’s best rating in 23 years

The third showdown featuring star rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese made Sunday’s game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky the most-watched WNBA game in 23 years.

Reese’s Sky edged Clark’s Fever 88-87, with 2.3 million viewers tuning in on ESPN. At one point, 3.3 million viewers were watching.

Clark and Reese played a role in setting the previous record, as 2.25 million people watched Indiana beat Chicago 91-83 on June 16. That game was shown on CBS, which reaches about 12.5 million viewers more than ESPN.

When the teams first met on June 1, the Fever came away with a 71-70 victory over the Sky. Indiana and Chicago will wrap up their four-game season series on Aug. 30.

In the latest battle between Clark and Reese, it was Reese who stole the spotlight, finishing with a career-high 25 points and 16 rebounds. Clark recorded 17 points, six boards and 13 assists.

Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, will get 20 more nationally televised games with the Fever this season. Reese, selected seventh overall back in April, has the chance to play nine more games on national television.

The Sky are 6-9 this season, sitting one spot above ninth-place Indiana (7-11) in the WNBA standings.
