Sept 13 MLB Picks: SGP for Red Sox at Yankees Game Two & Additional Props

After cashing a same-game-parlay in the Rangers vs. Mariners game last night, the daily same-game-parlay series moves back to the East Coast with the classic Yankees and Red Sox rivalry. While yesterday’s SGP was only three legs, tonight’s will be four, with one pitching prop and three hitting props.

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees

Tanner Houck (8-10) vs. Clarke Schmidt (5-3)

+373 Same Game Parlay: Rafael Devers Over 0.5 Hits + Aaron Judge Over 0.5 Hits + Gleyber Torres Over 0.5 Hits + Clarke Schmidt Under 6.5 Strikeouts

While Devers was the root cause of our only missed SGP of the week, the numbers he has against Clarke Schmidt and at Yankee Stadium outweigh the recent heartbreak. After going hitless the last two games, one could argue Devers is due at the plate but that’s not why he’s the pick today. In 12 at bats against Clarke Schmidt, Devers has six hits for a .500 batting average, and 1.655 OPS. Schmidt gave up four hits in his last outing, and Devers will undoubtedly look to contribute tonight after a lackluster couple of games.

Aaron Judge comes in as our second leg as what many would think to be the safest one of tonight’s SGP. While there is usually no explanation needed for why Judge should get a hit, his stats against Tanner Houck point towards him being able to tally a hit. In 13 at bats against Houck, Judge has a .308 batting average, and no extra base hits. Coming off of two games with only a single hit, taking a hit tonight seems like a good and safer pick.

One of if not the hottest hitter in the Yankees lineup recently has been Gleyber Torres. The last seven days, Torres has a .300 batting average and .364 on base percentage. Against Tanner Houck, Torres has a .318 batting average and a .969 OPS. With nine hits in his last 30 at bats, Torres to collect another hit tonight seems like another solid addition to the SGP.

In his second start since coming off of injury, Clarke Schmidt totalling over 6.5 strikeouts sounds like an ambitious line to reach. While the Red Sox do strike out the third most among any team in baseball with only the Mariners and Rockies ahead, Schmidt only had two strikeouts in a near five inning outing. If the over in this case hits, there’s nothing else to do except tip your cap to Clarke Schmidt for a great outing.

Additional Props

New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies

Jose Quintana (8-9) vs. Aaron Nola (12-7)

Pete Alonso Over 1.5 Total Bases

In 49 at bats against Aaron Nola, Pete Alonso has put together some pretty impressive statistics. He’s recorded 16 hits, three doubles, and five home runs for a .327 batting average against Nola. A pitcher who’s been pretty tough to predict lately, last time out against New York he shutout the Mets, and with Alonso slightly slumping recently he needs to contribute to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Chicago Cubs at Colorado Rockies

Javier Assad (7-5) vs. Austin Gomber (5-10)

Javier Assad Over 15.5 Pitching Outs

Although pitching props at Coors Field are always risky, Assad has looked good as of late, and there’s some value to be had with this pick as well. The consensus odds for Assad to reach the over 15.5 outs tonight is +110, making it a nice return for anyone willing to tail the Cubs starter. His last four starts, Assad has gone at least 5.2 innings pitched, and in 39 at bats against Rockies hitters has held them to a .179 batting average.
