Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds
Jared Jones (6-7) vs. Rhett Lowder (1-2)
Jared Jones Under 17.5 Total Outs
The slate starts off this afternoon with a great pitching matchup out of Great American Ballpark. Pirates flamethrower Jared Jones and Reds prized pitching prospect Rhett Lowder will face off for the first time of what should be many in the National League Central.
After an impressive first half with Pittsburgh, an injury has caused Jones to slightly regress. In just four games started in the second half, Jones has posted a 5.03 ERA striking out 22 batters while walking seven.
While Jones has been able to put together a couple quality starts since returning from injury, his overall pitching has been rather inconsistent. He’ll be going up against a Reds offense that while isn’t in Postseason contention, has been hitting the ball well lately.
Cincinnati has a team OPS over the last seven days of .789, and a team on base percentage of .353. Players like Elly De La Cruz, Jake Fraley, Tyler Stephenson, and TJ Freidl have been great for the Reds this week and in the final series of their final 2024 homestand, they should look to get ahead early to secure the series.
Detroit Tigers at Baltimore Orioles
Reese Olson (4-8) vs. Cade Povich (2-9)
Over 8.5 Total Runs
After taking a loss in the series opener, the Tigers need to bounce back and take game two. Being a game back from the Twins for the final American League Wildcard spot, this is a crucial game to take against an Orioles starter they saw just last week.
Cade Povich his last time out against Detroit went five innings pitched giving up two hits and two earned runs while striking out eight. The Tigers were still able to pull out the win in that game, and against left handed starters in general have been solid, going 5-0 in their last five games against a lefty.
On the mound for the Tigers it’s Reese Olson who’s making his second start since returning from an injury dating back to late July. Dating back to his last six starts, the over is 5-1. When looking at the over against Cade Povich, the over has hit in the last five starts he has made in game two of a series.
Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets
Ranger Suarez (12-7) vs. Sean Manaea (11-5)
Sean Manaea Over 17.5 Total Outs
It seems like we go back to this prop often but for good reason, because Sean Manaea has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the league recently. He’s hit the over 17.5 total out line in his last seven starts dating back to August 16th. In his last four home starts, he’s gone seven innings pitched in three of the four outings.
Although the Phillies historically hit very well against Manaea with a 1.145 OPS in 70 at bats, they haven’t faced the left hander since June. Since then, Manaea has been a consistent workhorse for New York with eight quality starts in the second half.
