Seattle Reign FC acquired U.S. Women’s National Team forward Lynn Williams and goalkeeper Cassie Miller from NJ/NY Gotham FC on Friday.
In exchange, Gotham receives midfielder Jaelin Howell, an international roster slot and $70,000 in general allocation money.
“Lynn Williams is a proven winner with unmatched goal-scoring ability and a tireless work ethic,” Reign general manager Lesle Gallimore said. “Her impact extends beyond the pitch, as her leadership and reputation as an outstanding teammate are second to none and recognized globally. We couldn’t be more excited to have both Cassie and Lynn join the Reign family.”
Williams, 31, is the all-time leader in NWSL history with 80 career goals across all competitions with the Western New York Flash (2015-16), North Carolina Courage (2017-21), Kansas City Current (2022) and Gotham (2023-24). The 2016 NWSL MVP and Golden Boot winner has won four league championships and three NWSL Shields.
“I am honored to join Seattle Reign FC and step into this new opportunity in my career,” Williams said. “I’ve always said, ‘If you aren’t challenging yourself, you’re not growing,’ and this is definitely another challenge for me. I can’t wait to meet all you Reign fans and get to know more about the culture here. I’m excited to meet my teammates and hopefully build lasting connections on and off the field.”
Internationally, Williams has recorded 25 goals and 13 assists in 75 caps while winning five SheBelieves Cups and two Olympic medals, including the gold at the 2024 Paris Games.
Miller, 29, made four starts and recorded one clean sheet in her lone season with Gotham in 2024. She previously played for the Current (2022-23) and Chicago Red Stars (2020-21).
Howell, 25, was the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft by Racing Louisville after collecting the Hermann Trophy in each of her last two seasons at Florida State (2020, 2021). She joined the Reign in an August 2024 trade.
