The Colorado Rapids are transferring defender Moise Bombito to France’s OGC Nice for a record $7.7 million fee, the Denver Post reported.
The fee not only smashes the Rapids’ outbound transfer record of $2.1 million, for Sam Vines to Royal Antwerp in 2021, it is the largest in MLS history for a center back, according to the newspaper.
The deal includes add-ons worth up to an additional $3 million if the 24-year-old Canadian meets certain appearance and performance numbers. There is also a “significant” sell-on clause for any future transfers, per the report.
Bombito made his MLS debut with Colorado in 2023 and has recorded two goals and two assists in 29 career matches (25 starts). He tallied his first career goal in a 3-2 win against Los Angeles FC on March 30.
The Denver Post first reported the deal with the top-flight Ligue 1 club on Tuesday. The MLS secondary transfer window closes Wednesday.
