First half control propels Inter-Miami over Columbus Crew

Miami, FL- No Messi, No Suarez, No Problems.

Tonight (June 19), Inter-Miami CF hosted the reigning MLS champion Columbus Crew in a highly anticipated regular season matchup. Just above two hours pregame, ravenous storms purged South Florida, but luckily the match did not face a weather delay.

Inter-Miami opened the match with a red hot start, as both Ian Frey and Leonardo Campana placed shots into the goal (10′ & 21′). Unfortunately for Inter-Miami, this would be their only points scored during tonight’s contest.

Columbus also cracked the scoreboard as Cucho Hernández snuck a ball past Drake Callender (40′).

Going into halftime, the score was placed at the eventual final 2-1.

Throughout the second half, both teams displayed lockdown defense, as neither could truly find a good shot. Both goalkeepers played excellently, combining for 26 shot breakups.

As the final horn blared, the home crowd erupted as Inter-Miami emerged victorious at 2-1. Inter-Miami sits atop the Eastern Conference with a 12-5-3 record. In the coming days, Inter-Miami will travel to Nashville, TN. to face Nashville SC on Saturday, June 29.
