Chicago Fire FC acquired veteran forward Ariel Lassiter from CF Montreal on Wednesday in exchange for up to $150,000 in general allocation money.
Lassiter, 29, has three goals and a team-high six assists in 20 MLS games this season for Montreal. He has recorded five goals and 10 assists in 56 games across all competitions in the past two seasons with Montreal.
For his career, Lassiter has 12 goals and 15 assists in 142 appearances in MLS play for the LA Galaxy (2015-18), Houston Dynamo (2020-21), Inter Miami CF (2022-23) and Montreal (2023-24).
“Going into the final stretch of the regular season, we wanted to add a versatile player with MLS experience to strengthen our playoff push,” Chicago Fire sporting director Georg Heitz said in a news release. “Ariel will bring more competition and flexibility to the team, as he can play multiple positions. We look forward to welcoming him to the club in the coming days.”
Montreal will receive $75,000 in general allocation money in 2024 and could receive another $75,000 in GAM in 2025 if certain player performance conditions are met.
Lassiter, a native of Costa Rica who resides in Temecula, Calif., has played in 23 games with the Costa Rican national team and has one goal. He is the son of former MLS star striker Roy Lassiter.
