Liam Fraser scored his first career MLS goal and Maarten Paes made five saves to lead FC Dallas to a 1-1 draw with Minnesota United on Saturday night in Saint Paul, Minn.
Paes finished with at least five saves for the fifth straight match. He recorded a career-high nine stops during Dallas’ 1-0 loss against Los Angeles FC last Saturday.
FC Dallas (3-8-5, 14 points) remained winless on the road this season (0-6-3).
Hassani Dotson scored for Minnesota United (8-3-5, 29 points), who are in third place in the Western Conference. Clint Irwin, making his 2024 debut for the Loons with starter Dayne St. Clair (Canada) away on international duty, made three saves.
Minnesota United, also playing without their two top goal scorers, Tani Oluwaseyi and Robin Lod, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute on Dotson’s second goal of the season. Bongokuhle Hlongwane set up the tally by intercepting Paes’ poor clearing pass at the top of the box and feeding Dotson, who one-timed a right-footed shot inside the right post.
Dallas, which hasn’t won since May 11, tied it six minutes later after Asier Illarramendi received a short corner kick at the right edge of the box before passing across to Fraser, who curled a right-footed shot inside the far post.
Dotson nearly recorded a brace in the 29th minute, as he drilled a right-footed shot from outside the box, but a diving Paes knocked the attempt away.
Irwin, who didn’t make a save in the first half, came up with two huge stops in the 69th minute to keep the match tied. He first slapped away Bernard Kamungo’s header from the middle of the box at the goal line, then prevented Paul Arriola from putting Dallas FC ahead with a right-footed strike.
