Troy Terry the hero as Ducks clip Senators in SO

Troy Terry scored in a shootout and collected three assists in regulation to lead the host Anaheim Ducks to a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.

Frank Vatrano scored twice as part of a three-point performance while Jackson LaCombe added a single goal for the Ducks, who went into the affair with one win in their past four games.

Anaheim goaltender Lukas Dostal made 28 saves between regulation and overtime and denied both Senators he faced in the shootout.

Terry’s three assists give him seven helpers over his past four games. Ryan Strome finished with two assists on Sunday.

Brady Tkachuk scored twice and Nick Cousins tallied once for the Senators, who have lost two consecutive games. Goalie Linus Ullmark stopped 31 shots.

Tkachuk registered 12 shots on goal, which tied a career high.

Terry put the Ducks ahead in the shootout with a five-hole shot. Trevor Zegras also scored for Anaheim, doing so in the next round.

Three times the Ducks grabbed a lead and each time the Senators pulled even. Vatrano’s power-play goal at 14:45 of the first period opened the scoring, as the forward converted a one-timer from the slot, but Tkachuk tied the game just under three minutes later with a power-play goal of his own, a deflection of Tim Stutzle’s point shot.

LaCombe put the Ducks ahead a second time with 5.7 seconds remaining in the opening period when he chipped home a second rebound attempt for his third goal of the season.

However, Tkachuk made it a 2-2 affair 37 seconds into the second period. He was sprung on a breakaway and was stopped on his first shot but lifted a rebound attempt into the back of the net for his 13th goal of the campaign.

Vatrano gave Anaheim its third lead at 4:37 of the third period when he pounced on a loose puck near the net for his sixth goal of the season, but Cousins evened the count a third time 69 seconds later when he drove the net and redirected Michael Amadio’s pass for his second goal of the season.
