Kraken knock off Blackhawks for third straight win

Jaden Schwartz scored his 200th career goal as the Seattle Kraken defeated the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 Thursday night.

Matty Beniers and Brandon Tanev also tallied for Seattle, which improved to 3-0-0 on its six-game homestand. Goaltender Joey Daccord made 18 saves.

Ryan Donato scored for the Blackhawks, and Petr Mrazek stopped 23 of 25 shots.

Schwartz extended the Kraken’s lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal at 1:34 of the third. Defenseman Ryker Evans sent the puck into the left-wing corner for Chandler Stephenson. He fired a pass to Schwartz, who was skating laterally through the slot. Schwartz deked Mrazek to get him out of position and put the puck into the empty side of the net.

The Blackhawks got on the board at 3:22 of the period as Donato, who played for the Kraken in their first two years of existence, skated over the blue line and took a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle. Daccord made a pad save but couldn’t find the rebound, and Donato tracked down the puck and shot it off the left post and then the back of Daccord’s skate, before it trickled over the goal line.

Tanev scored into an empty net at 19:41 to clinch the victory.

Seattle opened the scoring at 4:18 of the second period. Defenseman Adam Larsson passed the puck to Oliver Bjorkstrand along the right-wing boards at center ice. Bjorkstrand turned and shoveled a pass ahead to Jared McCann to start a two-on-one rush. McCann carried the puck over the blue line on the left wing and made a centering pass to Beniers, who put a one-timer over Mrazek’s glove hand and into the upper right corner of the net.

Kraken captain Jordan Eberle suffered a lower-body injury when he crashed into the end boards after a collision with Chicago defenseman Connor Murphy just 13 seconds into the second period. Eberle skated gingerly off the ice while hunched over and didn’t return.
