With change coming all over the New York Jets organization, the NFL world is waiting to see their moves with the roster. With the news that Aaron Rodgers is out at QB, his best friend (and favorite target) Davante Adams will be alone again. Along with his massive salary this upcoming season, everyone expects Adams to be playing for a team other than the Jets in 2025.
Many teams have been rumored to acquire the six-time Pro Bowler. However, he seems to be a great fit with the Los Angeles Chargers for many reasons.
For one, there is a glaring need at receiver for the Chargers. Outside of Ladd McConkey, not many Chargers wideouts contributed much to the offense. Since McConkey is heading into his second season, any star they pair with him would ideally provide a veteran presence to the receiver room.

There are multiple players like Tee Higgins and Chris Godwin in free agency, but there is a chance Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz don’t want a contract that long on a run-first offense. If that is the thought process, getting a guy like Adams who – while making a lot of money – is only locked up for one more year would give Ladd McConkey some great guidance and help him progress even further. Adams could also help Quentin Johnston with some of his problems as he heads towards the end of his rookie contract.
The fit with Davante Adams in the offense would be great. Despite being viewed as more of a slot receiver, Ladd McConkey can excel on both the inside and outside. Davante Adams is a very similar talent. Adams’ route running is so elite at this point in his career that he can make big plays at any spot on the field.
These two on the field together would provide a great deal of versatility to the passing game. It would be like the football version of positionless basketball to an extent. While Adams and McConkey have different skills considering size and speed, they can each run any route with the chance to make a play. Providing this dynamic passing game to Justin Herbert would elevate this game more than ever, making a poor offensive performance in the playoffs less likely.

Another reason to go after Adams is his cost. If L.A. decides not to tackle wideout in Free Agency, they have a few options in the trade market. Recently, Deebo Samuel and DK Metcalf have popped up a lot in trade rumors. Since both of these guys are great talents younger than Adams, they will probably go for more than the 11-year vet.
On top of this, the market for Davante Adams has already been set. The Jets acquired him during the 2024-25 season for a third-round pick. Since Adams is even older and has one year on his contract, he shouldn’t go for any more than what the Jets gave up for him. Therefore, he should be a lot cheaper than Metcalf or Samuel.
There are also reports that Adams has a level of interest in the Chargers. Rumors are that the former Fresno State star is intrigued by returning to the West Coast. The 49ers, Rams, and Chargers are three teams mentioned as possible teams Adams would be interested in. He has had his battles with the Chargers’ social media team, but he would put that aside if he were competing for a Super Bowl. It is also worth noting that there seems to be mutual interest between Adams and the Packers for a reunion.

There is one more idea that makes the Chargers seem like a fit for Adams, although it is a reach. Adams and Charger great Keenan Allen have been interested in playing together for years. Allen is now a free agent and all signs point to Adams being on the move, as well. Maybe they could unite on a team other than the Chargers, but the Bolts are the most likely fit for the two to team up.
Keenan Allen is a Charger, and he seems to desire to return to Los Angeles for the end of his career. In other words, the chances are Keenan Allen wouldn’t sign with Green Bay to play with his buddy. It is a stretch, but there is a chance the two living legends could be interested in teaming up in powder blue.
