Packers Penalties And Turnovers Stop Win Streak

Packers

Whad Up…ThePenguinAZ back at it. Bringing a shorter review of The Packers vs The Steelers. The Pack traveled to a cool low 50s Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA. It was an 11 am start time if you live in the dry heat state. The yellow flags aka terrible towels were sure in effect. Attendance was at 99% and for the gambling folks line was Pitt -3.5, Over/Under 37.5.

So let’s get down to the drives and make this short and sweet. The Steelers receive the ball on opening kickoff. As I mentioned something about flags, yes you might have guessed it. First penalty flag on Valentine for defensive pass interference. The pass was intended for D. Johnson from Kenny P. The running game would be the force all game starting on this drive.

RB N. Harris would start with a short 4 yd run up the middle from the GB 4 for a touchdown. Steelers up 7-0 on 9 plays, 75 yds, and 4:59 off the clock. Harris would set the tone early and you will see why I say this.

Let’s go to Nixon taking the kickoff for 36 yds. Love would start the first drive throwing to Watson moving down the field. Wicks would catch another pass for 23, making me think this passing game might be the key. Quadzilla Dillon got the running plays and took the rock to the Pit 8. Love would almost start the turnover party yet redeem himself and throw a dart to Doubs matching the Steelers TD. 7 Up and no not the soda, 10 plays, 69 yards and 5:19 off the clock.

Pickett and the rb combo would continue doing what worked. Running and mixing in the pass. Oh wait, something The Packers don’t do. The Steelers would make the scoreboard change 14-7 on a 11 play, 5:30 off the ticker and 60 yards. The Harris and Warren RB combo became a thing. Now the Packers would start the 2nd drive and punt, only 3 plays, 2 yds and 1:06 off the clock. Back comes the Steelers offense. That yellow flag flies this time to J. Owens for illegal contact.

Harris and Warren back to rumbling and tumbling but Pickett would get the first sack of the game due to P. Smith causing ruckus losing 7. It was time for the first FG of the game as Boswell would kick a 42 yarder. 17-7 with the drive going 8 plays, 30 yards and 4:58 off.

#3 drive would be Love passing and coach LaFleur splashing Jones and Dillon. Pitt would get the yellow flag defense pi. Love would get sacked by who else T. Watt, losing 6. Love and a up and coming Packers receiver J. Reed made the connection for a Packers TD on a 35 yd contested pass. Carlson’s extra point would get blocked by Peterson making it 13-17 on 3:54, 7 plays and 87 yds. Pack back in it Yo!!! Drives 4 and 5 would be a punting exchange bringing it to half time.

Drive 6 and the second half would start with El Sombrero Jones. Flags fly on offsetting penalties, Jones and Love would trot along for catching a floater helping Carlson making a FG. The score now 16-17, 11 plays, 31 yds and 5:52 off the timer. The Steelers Harris and the offense got a flag for offensive holding on M. Cole. Harvin punts again keeping it the same score wise, 3 plays, ZERO yds and 1:58 off. Here comes the 7th drive. Jones running,

packers

Love throwing to Musgrave for the first time for a 36 yd pass. Musgrave would get another chance at a ball but fall short and now Carlson back out smashing a FG. The Pack with the lead for the 1st time today 19-17. FOUR:06 off, 68 yards on 9 plays leaving 3:04 left in the 3rd quarter.

Boswell would match the FG and kick it 49 yards. Steelers back on top 20-19 on a short drive of 5 plays. Nixon would continue making nice kick returns but a flag again on the green and gold on Z. Tom, illegal formation. Pittsburgh would decline the flag but talk it over and accept the penalty, yes weird I know. 3 and 11 for the Pack ending the 3rd quarter.

Punt time again for the back starting the 4th and both teams with drives of only 3 plays. The Steelers punting again after 5 plays for 27 and more time off the clock 2:21 to be exact. Another short Packers drive results in a punt. I begin to question why Jones or Dillon are not getting the pigskin. 19-20 Steelers.

The Harris and Warren show was back leading the 9th drive to a Boswell chip shot FG. 23-19 Pitt. leads with 5:14 to go. The Packers ensuing drive would have me yelling obscenities. Musgrave started on a sweet 28 yard grab from Love, keeping Musgrave the receiver today. The rookie D. Wicks would make another great catch for 32 going to the Pitt 15. Dang it and Love not loving this drive threw an INT and there went my yelling and cursing. K. Neal from the Steelers would close the door on a possible return for a W. No need for drive stats also. Haha!!!

The Steelers would make the clock tick, tick, tick and more tick and why not. Of course Harris and Warren again. The punting team would leave the sideline and punt helping the Packers get one more drive to win this game. Does Love have the magic under a minute to go? He launches a wobbler to Reed for 46 LFG!!!!! Jones and Dillon would get the ball making Pittsburgh use both timeouts after Dillon ran the rock to their 16. Three seconds left on 2nd and 10, Love throw his 2nd INT to Kazee ending the drive and the game. A little scuffle happens but the final remains 23-19. Packers Lose!!!! 😖😤

The game stats are very similar besides penalties and turnovers. The penalties and turnovers never win games. Harris and Warren would smoke Jones and Dillon running 205 to 116. Love passed Kenny Pickett passing for 283 to Picketts 119. The game changing stats were turnovers and penalties. The Packers getting 5 flags for 32 yards and the biggest 2 INT turnovers to the Steelers only 3 flags for 27 yards. Not too much to say after this bad lose.

This Matt LaFleur offense continues to baffle me on why they aren’t running the ball to setup the passing game. El Sombrero Jones is the catalyst of this offense yet is not getting the touches. Mind you this consistent penalty flag games have not helped the winning cause. I ask fellow Packer fans and owners is the Matt LaFleur reign over?

Does Joe Barry as DC get replaced also? On another note it is time for some board games with the family, see you all next week from the melting not frozen tundra Lambeau Field. Bring on those battery Chargers. Be safe and well with family and friends.
