Davante Adams has been at the center of trade rumors for a while now, and it’s recently been reported that he’s demanded a trade from the team. On top of that, the team already has a price in mind for what they would like in return. If I’m the New Orleans Saints front office, I’m doing everything in my power to make this trade a reality. The city needs some hope right now after two demoralizing losses, and Adams would be exactly the jump start they could use.
The Davante Adams Situation Was Long And Tedious
The Las Vegas Raiders have been floating around the idea of trading Adams for a while now. After all, the team wasn’t very competitive and he’s an aging receiver with his value only getting lower. Two weeks ago, during a loss to the Carolina Panthers, head coach Antonio Pierce said that some players made “business decisions” on the field and that he’d also be making business decisions. This past week, Pierce was caught liking a post on social media that talked about how Adams had played his last snap as a Raider. When immediately asked about it, Adams said that he had received no word from management, and later he requested a trade himself.
Why The Saints Are A Great Fit For Both Sides
The immediate names that emerged as suitors were the New York Jets and the Washington Commanders. However, I think the Saints are a better fit than both of them. Why? Well, first things first, Adams would reunite with his former quarterback Derek Carr. The main reason Adams even went to Las Vegas in the first place was because he wanted to play alongside Carr. Towards the end of one season, the coaching staff randomly benched Carr to head in a younger direction, before parting ways with him entirely. It was a situation that Adams was outspoken about, saying that he didn’t like how Carr was treated when he arrived. This could cause an urge to get these two on the same field again, but to do it all correctly this go around.
Probably the most important reason that the Saints would be a good fit is because this team needs another weapon. It’s very clear that the Saints offense can be deadly when everyone is healthy. Unfortunately, if anybody misses time at the playmaker position, this offense sputters. Taysom Hill has helped the team score touchdowns in 11 out of 18 drives that he’s been out there. Without him, they’ve scored just four touchdowns out of 18 drives. That’s just an example, but it goes for other players like Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave as well. If you add Adams to the mix, not only does it give the Saints some great depth on offense, it also adds a new dimension to a unit that’s already proven to be hard to stop under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
The Price Is Interesting
The current price for a trade has been reported as a second-round pick and additional compensation. It’d be interesting to see if that’s actually what gets a deal done because Adams is getting older and would require some financial flexibility as well. In my mind, a third-round pick and some additional compensation might get the job done, but I’m not an insider. If I’m the Saints, I’m calling straight away and inquiring, even if the price is a second-round pick. I believe that’s still worth it. This team wants to contend for a Super Bowl, and pulling the trigger on a move like this would indicate exactly that. It would also make up for the fact that they lost out on Justin Simmons in the offseason.
