Grading Miami Dolphin 2024 Rookie Draft Picks 10 Games into their Career

The 2024 Miami Dolphins draft class is officially 10 games into their NFL career. Below I will breakdown their performances thus far, as well as grade the pick using hindsight. Let’s get into it.

Round 1 Pick 21: Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State. Grade: B

Chop Robinson was Miami’s first round selection in 2024, he was the player to be drafted by Miami in the first round since teammate Jaelan Phillips. Miami decided to use their selection on the uber talented edge rusher out of Penn State. Robinsons raw talent and freak athleticism made him a valuable prospect, 250lbs humans who can run a sub 4.5 40 yard dash do not grow on trees. However the pick wasn’t perfect for a reason. It is well documented Robinson showed a lack of pass rush moves in order to be a dominant NFL defender. This season Robinson has been up and down. Robinson has not been stuffing the stat sheet, but he has been very disruptive. While he only has 2 sacks on the year, he has had games with multiple pressures, as well as run stops. The sky’s the ceiling for Robinson, and Miami is letting Chop learn through repetitions what it takes to be a great edge defender in this league.

Round 2 Pick 55: Patrick Paul, OT, Houston. Grade: C+

The big offensive tackle out of Houston Patrick Paul was Miami’s second round draft selection, he was selected with the intention of letting him sit and learn under veteran Terron Armstead. However, Armstead is aging severely, as well as has dealt with injury problems in his career. Paul has not played for the Dolphins in regular season play so far this year, but that was expected, his time to play will come. He gets a C+ because his upside is tremendous, and he will fill in at a critical position when needed.

Round 4 Pick 120: Jaylen Wright, RB, Tennessee. Grade: A-

The Dolphins moved up in the 4th round to select running back Jaylen Wright out of Tennessee. This looked like a home run pick at the time, and has shown signs to be so in Jaylen Wrights limited action so far. Wright was a clear star during the preseason, and while his work has been limited in the regular season, he has shown special ability. He is averaging 4.1 yards per carry on the year, PFF gives him a 74.8 overall grade.

Round 5 Pick 158: Mohamed Kamara, EDGE, Colorado State. Grade: A-

Mohamed Kamara was considered a steal in the NFL draft when he was selected in the 5th round. Kamara was a dominant college football defensive end, and hasn’t really gotten the chance to show that so far in the NFL. In the preseason he recorded a sack. For the pick he was taken at, I’ll stick to the guns of giving him an A-.

Round 6 Pick 184: Malik Washington, WR, Virginia. Grade: A

Malik Washington led the country in receptions his final year in college, he somehow fell to the 6th round of the NFL draft. Mike McDaniel and Chris Grier scooped him up immediately, and it’s been a great match so far. Since Braxton Berrios had a season ending injury, Malik Washington stepped into return duties and slot wide receiver duties. Malik has shown impressive return ability, and at wide receiver has been a tough man to bring down with the ball in his hands. His highlight play so far of his career was when he took an end around to the house against the Rams on the first drive of the game.

Round 6 Pick 198: Patrick McMorris, SAFETY, Cal. Grade: B-

Pat McMorris was the Dolphins second 6th round pick, and showed promising ability in the preseason for the Dolphins. McMorris got injured in the preseason and has not played in any regular season games for Miami.

Round 7 Pick 241: Tahj Washington, WR, USC. Grade: NA

Tahj Washington was placed on injured reserve for the Dolphins ending his rookie season.
