The Miami Dolphins host the New York Jets this Sunday on December 8th at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami comes in with a 5-7 record, while the Jets come in with a 3-9 record. Below I will break down both squads and how I think the game will go.
It all starts with Miami’s offense vs the Jets defense. Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich was their defensive coordinator before Robert Saleh got fired. Their defense has struggled this year since being considered an elite unit prior, and their task will be difficult this weekend.
Miami’s offense is one of the best in the league against struggling defensive units. They lack great offensive line play up front but make up for it with speed, timing, and rhythm. Miami at home has been excellent on the offensive side of the ball, Tua Tagovailoa is playing his best football of his career currently.
Miami has been spreading the ball around a lot, their run game has been lackluster, but the passing game has been efficient. Teams are running 2 high safeties and shell coverage to take away explosive plays downfield, so Miami has been forced to dink and dunk where necessary. Jonnu Smith and Devon Achane have been great players in the receiving game. Achane leads running backs in yards and receptions at his position. Smith is averaging over 100 yards a game in his last 5 games at the receiver position.
The Jets will be threatened for sure from Miami’s passing attack, their offense has not been great either this year. The Jets can threaten Miami with their young stud running back Breece Hall, and their stud receiver Garrett Wilson. If Miami can get home to Aaron Rodgers they will win convincingly. However if Rodgers has time, he can slice and dice Miami’s defense like he has done in the past.
All in all I expect a fairly convincing Miami victory. They have proven to beat inferior competition, especially at home. I predict a 28-20 victory for the Dolphins.
