The Tennessee Titans picked up their first win in the Brian Callahan era, as they beat the Miami Dolphins 31-12 last night. This game was won through good defense, and a creative/successful run game. The Titans only had 244 total yards of offense, but 142 of them were on the ground. They took advantage of good field position, as well as turnovers from the Dolphins.
The game started off well for the Dolphins, edge rusher Emmanuel Ogbah caught an interception (yes, you read that right), from Will Levis on the first drive of the game. He dropped into coverage and Levis locked into his first read, this resulted in a horrible interception from him. The Dolphins then were moving the ball through the air, Tyler Huntley found Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill through the air.
The game was shifted a play after, as there was a swing pass to Tyreek Hill which was dropped. The refs made the call that it was a backward pass, where Tennessee recovered. This shifted the game, as the Dolphins looked like they had at least 3 points in the bag to take a lead. Hill’s drop, but also failure to fall on the ball was a fatal mistake to an already struggling offense.
After that, the game was filled with punts and field goals. Will Levis the drive after Hill’s fumble injured his shoulder diving for a first down. Mason Rudolph came in for him the rest of the game. Tennessee ended the half 9-3 with a nice drive to get in field goal range. Nick Folk drained the kick.
A few drives into the second half, the Dolphins got on the board again with another field goal. Braxton Berrios helped with a big punt return to get the Dolphins around midfield. A 56 yard field goal by Sanders helped Miami secure another 3 points.
It was all downhill for Miami after that. Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears started breaking off big runs, both of them got in the endzone.
There wasn’t much for Miami to hang their hat on, they were able to score a touchdown late in the game, but it was the only touchdown they scored since Tua exited week 2 with a concussion. 1 touchdown in 3 games without Tua, that’s it. That’s the worst part of everything transpiring for the Dolphins. It is safe to say they are now easily the worst football team in the NFL. Where do they go from here?
The earliest Tua can return from is week 8 against the Cardinals, can the Dolphins win a game until then? I do not believe so, they have proven they cannot even compete at home against bad teams. It’s a scary situation to be in if you are a Dolphins fan, and there are not many solutions.
Maybe a trade is on the horizon? Who could fill in at QB realistically? The Jets won’t trade Tyrod Taylor to Miami, and the Dolphins don’t want to take on Russell Wilson’s contract. It’s looking like Tyler Huntley is the route they will take, and he will need to step up his game or else the Dolphins season is over.
