The Los Angeles Chargers are poised to make a big move on the offensive side of the ball in this upcoming offseason. Most notably, people are waiting for them to acquire a Wide Receiver. This could be via trade or Free Agency. Many names in this Free Agency class await new contracts: Tee Higgins, Chris Godwin, Stefon Diggs, and others.
However, the latest rumors have been growing over the past week or two. There has become a growing connection between the Chargers and Seahawks star Wideout DK Metcalf, per many reports. There is not much merit as of yet to the interest from the Chargers’ end, but there are reasons to believe Metcalf wouldn’t be opposed to playing for Jim Harbaugh next season.

First, it was reported that some NFL executives believe the Seahawks star will be wearing powder blue and gold next year. Then, ESPN predicted a blockbuster trade would happen this offseason to send DK to Los Angeles. Since then, players have gotten involved. Standout LB Daiyan Henley posted on his Instagram story a throwback to when he worked out with DK back in his Washington State Days.
Seeing that the original post was over four years old, this was likely more than a coincidence. The day before things started to pick up steam, Metcalf posted many pictures. One of these slides was a picture from his car looking at his high school, where he played for the Oxford Chargers. Unlike Henley’s post, this may have been poor timing, although it doesn’t take away from the validity of the rumors.

Metcalf would be a dream addition for this Chargers offense. He would stretch the field out greatly with his ability to bring in deep catches. A duo of Metcalf and Ladd McConkey would easily be one of the best in football, with Ladd expected to improve heading into his sophomore season. Plus, his physical style of play would fit in perfectly in Jim Harbaugh’s offense.
Something many is not talking about is with DK, the Chargers wouldn’t have to worry about using Quentin Johnston on the outside and use him on short routes, where he has been shown to thrive. Some do question his personality, but if anyone can get him to buy in, it would be Jim Harbaugh.

Of course, Metcalf isn’t the only Wide Receiver mentioned in trade talks with the Chargers. Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill has expressed interest in Los Angeles recently. Hill posted on his Snapchat Story referencing the fact that the Chargers are the favorites to acquire him via trade. Since then, he has voiced his disdain with the Dolphins and has seemed like he will soon request a trade.
However, things have not seemed as two-sided between Hill and Los Angeles as they do with Metcalf. Things do have a long way to go before they become more official, but there is a large portion of Chargers fans calling for a DK Metcalf deal, and there is a good reason why.
