The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed starting cornerback Jamel Dean (hamstring) and rookie wide receiver Kameron Johnson (ankle) on injured reserve Monday before their home game against the Baltimore Ravens.
In corresponding moves, Tampa Bay also activated defensive lineman Earnest Brown IV from IR and elevated punter Trenton Gill from the practice squad to play in the Ravens game. Gill is competing with Jake Camarda for the Bucs’ punting job.
Dean, 28, started all six games for Tampa Bay this season but injured his hamstring in the Bucs’ Week 6 win over the New Orleans Saints. He was unable to practice this week.
Dean had recorded 43 tackles and four pass breakups this year. In 76 career games (57 starts) since the Buccaneers drafted him in the third round in 2019, Dean has 297 tackles, 49 pass breakups, seven interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and two fumble recoveries.
Johnson, 22, an undrafted free agent signing this offseason, appeared in four games and played 40 snaps on offense and 20 on special teams. He had one rushing attempt for no yards.
Brown, 25, missed the first six games of the season while nursing an injury to his ribs. He was designated for return on Oct. 9. This marks his first season in Tampa Bay after playing 12 games over the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.
