Alvin Kamara Reflects On His Past, Knows He’s On The Backend Of His Career

Alvin Kamara helped change the culture and the hopefulness in the New Orleans Saints locker room when he got drafted. Now, we’re seven seasons later and Kamara is still a fan favorite, leading the way for the group on offense. Kamara recently opened up about his time in the league and how he knows he’s on the backend of his career, with no time left to just wait around.

Alvin Kamara Knows There Is No Time To Waste

When speaking on the team’s urgency, he said, “I feel like there is no time to waste, because let’s just say I’m at the halfway point, if I were to play 16 years or 10 years, I’m on the back end of my career. I don’t want to waste no time.” Kamara also talked a lot about how he never used to believe that he would still be around in the league when he was just a rookie. And now, he tells all of the younger guys on the roster to just sit back and enjoy the time spent in the league while you have it, because time catches up faster than you think.

When further pressing on Kamara about his urgency to succeed, he said, “I don’t want to sit here and say, I’ve got time, I’ve got time. Ain’t no time, so I’m trying to run it up. I’m trying to do what I can have the most success. And in this league, we measure success by Super Bowls and playing in February. That’s what I’m trying to get to.” It’s a shame that Kamara hasn’t been able to reach a Super Bowl after the disaster in the NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams with that infamous no-call pass interference. He wants to see what it’s like to win the conference and march his way into the biggest game of the season.

New Coordinator, New Hope

The final quote from his interview came regarding the offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak. From what Kamara said, he’s been all over Kubiak to learn the plays and get inside his mind. He said, “I feel good about it. We’re all running the same plays in this league, it’s just terminology. Some guys have different philosophies. You can ask Klint, I was annoying him during the preseason because I was hovering around him, trying to ask him, like, what are you thinking? What are you doing? And he was, like, man, get away from me, I’m trying to call the plays.”

Kamara and the rest of this Saints offense desperately need a great season, or I would imagine that there would be a drastic overhaul in 2025 in terms of their roster. That would mean a shakeup at multiple key positions, the coaching staff, and might see the departure of fan favorites like Cameron Jordan, Demario Davis, and Alvin Kamara. Saints’ faithful is hoping that before these guys depart, they can win a Super Bowl or at the very least, win a playoff game. Only time will tell if it’s possible.
