Jacksonville, FL.- Jacksonville Jaguars Training Camp comes into full swing at the beginning of next week.
The Jags will hold highly anticipated practices that are open to the public starting next Wednesday (July 24). These training sessions are free for the fans, and they span throughout the remainder of July into mid August.
This is a momentous year for the Jaguars, marking the team’s 30th season. Leading into the season, there’s a lot of storylines surrounding this young squad.
Without further ado, here’s my top 3 biggest storylines surrounding the Jaguars!
1.: Is Trevor Lawrence worth that contract?
This off-season, the Jaguars signed star QB, Trevor Lawrence to a 5 year, $275M deal. Lawrence’s deal boomed the quarterback market, skyrocketing him to the (tied) second highest contract in the league, behind Patrick Mahomes and tied with Joe Burrow.
With that being said, the biggest question surrounding Lawrence’s contract is: is Lawrence worth it? Statistically speaking, as every season progresses, Lawrence improves. Trevor’s surpassed over 4,000 passing yards and 20 touchdowns for two consecutive seasons. During the same seasons, Lawrence’s Jags have finished 9-8 twice, securing an AFC South Championship in 2022-23.
I believe with this revamped WR corps (continue reading for full breakdown), a favorable schedule and elite coaching, theres no reason to say Trevor Lawrence won’t achieve his full potential in the very near future.
2.: New WR’s who dis?https://prizepicks.onelink.me/ivHR/Vault3
Jacksonville’s WR room went through a deep over haul this off-season. Three of the four Jaguars’ 2023 starters (Calvin Ridley, Zay Jones, Jamal Agnew) are no longer affiliated with the team, but the Jags added Gabe Davis, Brain Thomas Jr. and Devin Duvernay in the off-season.
This receiver room, alongside Christian Kirk and Evan Engram will be a dynamic pass catching threat. The Jaguars’ WR’s room easily comes in as one of the deepest in the league. The biggest question concerning this new group is their chemistry with Trevor Lawrence, and amongst themselves.
I believe that Trevor Lawrence’s history of elite play will elevate this core to hold multiple 1,000 yard or double digit score receivers.
3.: Is this Defense elite?
Throughout the team’s 30 yer history, Jacksonville has always been a team that features some of the league’s most underrated players. Despite their young talent, this Jaguars’ defense was very suspect during 2023.
Last season, the Jags gave up the 11th most yards alongside the 7th most TD’s in the league. Jacksonville’s defense features multiple league stars, including Joshua Hines-Allen, Andre Cisco and Devin Lloyd, as well as former #1 overall pick Travon Walker.
Based off multiple reports throughout the off-season, Jaguars’ defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen plans on playing into his personnel’s strengths, rather them reducing them to mediocrity. During Camp, Nielsen plans on putting players at “different positions because it’s a great opportunity to see what guys can do.”
I like the idea of game planning alongside athleticism, and I expect to see different schemes then what Jags fans are used to, as well as a giant leap from 2023.
There we have it! My three biggest storylines surrounding the Jaguars leading into Training Camp!
I personally will be in attendance at Camp for multiple days, tune in for daily recaps and analysis!
