Quarterbacks Jalen Milroe of Alabama and Carson Beck of Georgia are among five returning semifinalists on the 2024 Maxwell Award Watch List for outstanding player in college football.
The list of 80 players, released Monday by the Maxwell Football Club, includes three other 2023 semifinalists: Liberty QB Kaidon Salter, Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III and Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II.
Miami (WR Xavier Restrepo, RB Damien Martinez and QB Cam Ward) and Ohio State (QB Will Howard, RB Quinshon Judkins and WR Emeka Egbuka) led the way with three candidates apiece.
The Atlantic Coast Conference had the most candidates with 20, followed by the Southeastern Conference (15), Big 12 (15) and Big Ten (12).
The semifinalists will be announced Nov. 12, the three finalists unveiled Nov. 26 and the winner of the 88th Maxwell Award will be revealed on Dec. 12 as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
The Maxwell Award, which was first presented in 1937, went to Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. in 2023.
