LAS VEGAS — Nuggets rookie DaRon Holmes II tore his right Achilles tendon during the fourth quarter of his first Summer League game Friday night, a league source confirmed to The Denver Post.
Holmes was seen leaving Cox Pavilion on crutches and wearing a boot after Denver’s 88-78 loss to the Clippers.
The Nuggets selected Holmes 22nd overall this summer after trading up six spots in the draft. The reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year was their top target for most of the pre-draft process, and they viewed him as a plug-and-play option who could provide much needed frontcourt depth behind three-time MVP Nikola Jokic.
Holmes amassed 11 points and seven rebounds in the game, making all three of his 3-point attempts.
