The Detroit Tigers number one ranked overall prospect Max Clark has excelled in his first nine games at High-A in West Michigan. The 19-year old is putting up incredible production and showcasing a phenomenal glove in the field with plus speed. For what was considered to be a very risky pick taking the high schooler Max Clark in front of now Rangers rookie Wyatt Langford, is appearing to pay dividends and he’s developing quite well with incredible athleticism.
Clark earned a call up to High-A after posting up very solid numbers in 73 games at A-ball in Lakeland. He hit for a slashline of .286/.386/.421 for an .807 OPS with seven home runs, 11 doubles, and 58 RBI’s. Clark was great on the basepaths as well, stealing 26 bases.
Upon being called up to West Michigan, Clark’s production hasn’t slowed down. Given it’s a much smaller sample size in just nine games at the High-A level, Clark’s hit for a slashline of .405/.463/.568 with a 1.031 OPS. He hasn’t shown his power too much, hitting no home runs, but he has five extra base hits in those nine games.
Clark’s been amazing in the field so far in High-A as well, with a 1.000 fielding percentage according to Baseball Reference. He’s shown his speed in center field, being able to make leaping catches, taking extra base hits away from opponents, and other top prospects such as Padres top prospect Ethan Salas.
Clark improved in his second year as a professional baseball player. After hitting .224 in 23 games in 2023, Clark is now hitting .300 on the season through 82 games in 2024. He’s taken massive leaps this season, and could very well push his estimated time of arrival to Detroit closer.
