Arizona Diamondbacks at Miami Marlins
Jordan Montgomery (8-6) vs. Roddery Munoz (2-7)
Over 8.5 Total Runs Scored + Adrian Del Castillo Over 0.5 Home Runs
After getting swept by the Tampa Bay Rays, the Arizona Diamondbacks go for the sweep in Miami with Jordan Montgomery on the mound. While the Diamondbacks need this win being four games back of the NL West division lead, the run total going over 8.5 is the play today. With Roddery Munoz on the mound for Miami, runs are due to get put up by the incredibly difficult to navigate Diamondbacks lineup.
Roddery has a 6.63 ERA at home, and a 2-7 record overall on the season. Four of the last five starts from Munoz have resulted in a score total over 8.5 runs, and he has gone less than four innings pitched in two out of those five outings. A possible long-ball threat to Munoz today is Adrian Del Castillo. Since debuting earlier this month, Del Castillo has been great in nine games. He’s hit for a slashline of .333/.405/.667 for a 1.072 OPS. Del Castillo has hit three home runs in those nine games, with two of those three coming from the last seven days. He’s seeing the ball well, and is one of the Diamondbacks bigger power threats at the moment.
Chicago White Sox at San Francisco Giants
Garrett Crochet (6-9) vs. Logan Webb (11-8)
White Sox +1.5 + Gavin Sheets Over 1.5 Total Bases
This is the best pitching matchup on today’s slate with two 2024 All Stars going head to head. With Garrett Crochet on the mound, there’s confidence to bet on an underdog in Chicago, but Logan Webb has been too solid all season to go against, so the run line is the play for this game.
For how good Logan Webb is however, there is a player in the White Sox lineup who sees him well. Gavin Sheets in five at bats against Logan Webb has three hits, two of them being doubles. The White Sox are looking to avoid a sweep, and Sheets looks to help this struggling White Sox lineup take one in San Francisco.
Los Angeles Angels at Kansas City Royals
Johnny Cueto (0-0) vs. Michael Lorenzen (6-6)
Royals -1.5 + Michael Lorenzen Over 15.5 Pitching Outs
League wide fan favorite Johnny Cueto makes his big league return tonight for the Angels looking to take away a crucial series from Kansas City. While there is the fun narrative of Cueto coming back and shoving to a victory, the 38-year old has his hands full with this Royals lineup. Cueto doesn’t have any high velocity pitches, and if the offspeed stuff isn’t generating chases, it’ll be a long night.
Players like Bobby Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino, and Salvador Perez should help lead the charge to a series victory, but Lorenzen needs to be the one to take over on the mound tonight. He’s been solid recently, having two starts in August going over five innings pitched. While he’ll have to navigate some tricky hitters in the Angels lineup, this is a must-win game for Kansas City, and it starts with Lorenzen on the mound.
