Spencer Strider Plays Well In Atlanta Braves Opener

Spencer Strider got the start on the mound in the Atlanta Braves spring training home opener against the Tampa Bays, and he performed well. Strider helped orchestrate a 6-5 win over the Rays, getting the year started off well.

We only got to see Strider for the first two innings of play, yet he helped the team jump out to a 4-0 lead by the end of them. He gave up just one hit, no runs, and four strikeouts in his 2024 debut. While none of these numbers matter due to us being in the spring still, Atlanta certainly loved seeing Strider play to their expectations once more. His performance lets them know that he’s ready to have another strong campaign.

Strider

Strider has become known for his slider on the mound, and he’s worked on it for quite some time. However, numerous reports state that he’s looking to add more diversity into his skillset in 2024, with the curveball being something he’s trying to perfect. During this opening Spring Training game, we actually got to see Strider throw a few curveballs, so it’s clear that he’s looking to utilize it more throughout the season.

Spencer Strider Gave Way To Other Prospects

When Strider stepped away, the team opted to place bullpen option Daysbel Hernandez on the mound. It didn’t go so well early on; he gave up three hits including a home run to Jose Siri. Ray Kerr appeared later on and gave up a run on two hits with two strikeouts.

We won’t be seeing Atlanta again until Sunday afternoon against the Boston Red Sox. Although, it’s going to be an intriguing matchup regardless. They are expected to be sending Bryce Elder out to the mound, allowing him to make his own spring debut. Boston is supposedly rolling with Brayan Bello. All in all, Atlanta has a lot to be happy about already.
