Reports: Brewers to acquire RHP Aaron Civale from Rays

The Milwaukee Brewers are acquiring right-hander Aaron Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays to add a veteran arm to their pitching staff in the second half of the season, multiple outlets reported Wednesday.

They will send minor-league infielder Gregory Barrios to the Rays, per reports.

The Rays acquired Civale at the 2023 trade deadline from the Cleveland Guardians.

In 17 appearances (all starts) this season, the 29-year-old is 2-6 with a 5.07 ERA. He signed a one-year, $4.9 million contract in January to avoid arbitration and won’t become an unrestricted free agent until the 2026 season.

In his career with the Guardians (2019-23) and Rays, Civale has started 103 games and has a 33-32 record and a 4.10 ERA

Barrios, 20, is hitting .325 with one home run, 34 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 61 games at High-A Wisconsin.

The Brewers hold a six-game lead in the National League Central ahead of Wednesday’s road game against the Colorado Rockies.
