The Houston Astros won’t retain third-base coach Gary Pettis, who was on the staff during each of the team’s seven consecutive appearances in the American League Championship Series, The Athletic reported Monday.
He had been on the coaching staff since the start of the 2015 season and worked under managers A.J. Hinch, Dusty Baker and Joe Espada.
The Astros are not expected to part ways with any other members of the coaching staff unless those coaches accept other positions, per the report.
Pettis, 66, also was the team’s outfielders coach and baserunning coordinator.
Pettis played for four teams in his career (1982-92) and won five Gold Glove awards. He previously coached for the Texas Rangers, New York Mets and Chicago White Sox.
