The Baltimore Orioles placed first baseman Ryan Mountcastle on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a left wrist sprain.
The move was retroactive to Friday.
The Orioles recalled infielder Livan Soto from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move.
Mountcastle sustained the injury Thursday in a game against the Houston Astros when diving into second base headfirst. He stayed in the game until the ninth inning as his pain grew worse.
Mountcastle, 27, is batting .265 with 13 home runs and 61 RBIs in 118 games this year. In parts of five seasons in the major leagues, all with Baltimore, Mountcastle has batted .264 with 91 homers and 326 RBIs in 557 appearances.
Soto, 24, appeared in one game for the Cincinnati Reds earlier this year and came to Baltimore via trade in July. He has batted .325 with one home run and five RBIs in 12 games at Norfolk.
In his major league career, Soto has gone 24-for-67 (.358) with one homer and nine RBIs across 23 games for the Los Angeles Angels (2022-23) and Reds.
