The full rosters for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game were revealed Sunday.
The Philadelphia Phillies will send a major league-high and franchise-record seven players to this year’s Midsummer Classic, slated for July 16 in Arlington, Texas.
The pitching staffs and reserves were solidified Sunday after starting lineups were announced last Wednesday. Though fans elected the starters, the player and league office voted on pitchers and reserves.
The American League and National League rosters skew young, with a total of 32 first-time All-Stars. That includes Pittsburgh Pirates rookie pitcher Paul Skenes, Cincinnati Reds phenom Elly De La Cruz and 21-year-old San Diego Padres infielder Jackson Merrill.
Skenes is the first player to be voted to the All-Star Game in the season after being selected No. 1 overall in the MLB draft.
The senior-most All-Stars in this year’s crop are Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez and Houston Astros infielder Jose Altuve, each earning their ninth career trip to the game. Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Mookie Betts was voted to his eighth consecutive All-Star Game, though he will not be active for the game due to a broken hand.
As for the Phillies, four of their pitchers were selected Sunday to join three previously revealed starting infielders Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Alec Bohm. Ranger Suarez (276) accumulated the most votes among all MLB pitchers and will be joined by Philadelphia teammates Zack Wheeler, Matt Strahm and Jeff Hoffman.
The Cleveland Guardians paced the AL with five selections. Starters Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan are being joined by reserves Josh Naylor and David Fry and closer Emmanuel Clase.
