Miami Marlins Eury Perez Leaves Game With Injury

By CJ Carlson

The Miami Marlins were given a tremendous fright when they saw Eury Perez exit their recent Spring Training contest with an injury. Not to worry though, the injury isn’t thought to be severe, and he should be back fairly quickly from what has since been deemed a broken fingernail on his middle finger.

Miami is already going to be starting this season without their Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara. Alcantara is anticipated to miss all of the 2024 campaign, so any further losses to their pitching rotation could be massive. Perez is also thought of as a top prospect in all of baseball, with the franchise hoping he takes a massive leap forward this season.

Perez

Perez started 19 games for the Marlins and went 5-6 with a 3.15 ERA while striking out 108 batters in that span. In total, he pitched 91.1 innings. However, this upcoming season, the innings limit that’s been set before him has ranged around the 150-inning mark. We’re likely going to be seeing him a lot more on the mound this year. Unfortunately, he did miss some more time this past offseason with a cut on his pitching hand, but he’s since battled back from it and doesn’t appear to be affected by that at all.

Eury Perez Is Going To Be Integral For Miami

In 2024, the Marlins will rely upon a combination of Perez, Edward Cabrera, Braxton Garrett, and Jesus Luzardo on the mound to help them win some games. They were able to win 84 a season ago but got knocked out early on in the Wild Card round by the Philadelphia Phillies. If they want to try and win the National League East division, they’ll need to battle it out with both the Phillies and the Atlanta Braves, two of the most well-rounded teams in the league on paper.

The journey won’t be easy for Miami, especially without Alcantara available, but if Perez is as good as everybody hopes that he can be, then there’s hope for something big. Even if the team doesn’t advance far into the postseason, a breakout season from him could drastically change how they address the following offseason.
