Jordan Westburg racked up four hits, including a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning, as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 on Saturday.
Anthony Santander’s two-out solo home run in the eighth inning pulled the Orioles even at 4-4. Craig Kimbrel (4-1) worked the top of the 11th and didn’t allow a hit for the victory. Westburg then opened the home half of the frame with his game-winning single.
Ketel Marte homered for the second day in a row for the Diamondbacks, who have lost the first two games of the three-game series following a four-game winning streak.
Arizona starter Ryne Nelson made it through 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits while fanning three without walking anyone. Bryce Jarvis (0-2) took the loss, though the run he allowed was unearned, as Colton Cowser, who scored on Westburg’s single in the 11th, started the inning at second as the automatic runner.
Gunnar Henderson went deep and Ryan Mountcastle doubled twice and tripled for the Orioles, who have won seven of their past eight games.
Baltimore starter John Means was charged with four runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out three.
In the fifth, Arizona went ahead 3-2 on Corbin Carroll’s sacrifice fly, then made it a two-run game on Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s RBI single, which ended Means’ outing.
Westburg’s RBI double opened the scoring in the second inning for the Orioles.
Marte’s two-run homer in the third gave the Diamondbacks the lead before Ryan O’Hearn’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the frame tied things at 2-2.
When Henderson smacked his 12th home run of the season to grab a share of the major league lead in the fifth, the Orioles were within 4-3.
Santander’s seventh home run of the year came off reliever Kevin Ginkel, who hadn’t allowed a long ball in his previous 13 appearances.
In the 10th, Santander drew a one-out walk to load the bases, but Cowser grounded into a double play to extend the game.
