The Cleveland Guardians placed Tuesday’s previously scheduled starter, Carlos Carrasco, on the injured list because of an acute neck spasm.
The team recalled Xzavion Curry from Triple-A Columbus to step in for Carrasco and start Cleveland’s home game Tuesday night against the New York Mets.
Carrasco, a 37-year-old right-hander, was traded from Cleveland to the Mets, for whom he pitched the past three seasons. He was a Guardians non-roster invitee before this season.
Carrasco has made nine starts in 2024, going 2-4 with 34 strikeouts and 18 walks while posting a 5.16 ERA in 45 1/3 innings.
Curry, 25, started one game for Cleveland this season, going five innings April 15 at Boston. He held the Red Sox scoreless on two hits, struck out three and walked one.
He has made 44 big-league appearances, starting 12 games, and has thrown 109 1/3 career innings with a 4.03 ERA and a 3-5 record.
