The Cleveland Guardians made multiple roster moves Thursday, activating right-hander Nick Sandlin from the injured list, while recalling rookie shortstop Angel Martinez from Triple-A Columbus.
The club optioned both right-hander Eli Morgan and shortstop Jose Tena to Columbus.
Sandlin, 27, has not pitched for the Guardians since June 16 because of lower back inflammation. In his fourth season in Cleveland, Sandlin is 5-0 with a 3.49 ERA in 33 relief appearances.
Martinez, 22, returns after he made his major league debut June 22 and went 2-for-7 in two games before he was sent back down.
Morgan, 28, is the odd man out in the bullpen after he went 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 12 relief outings this season, his fourth in Cleveland.
Tena, 23, played in just three games and did not have a hit in four trips to the plate. He has 21 games of major league experience going back to last season, when he went 7-for-31 (.226).
The Guardians started play Thursday with the third-best record in the major leagues at 53-31, behind only the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies.
