Philadelphia Phillies at Los Angeles Dodgers
Tyler Phillips (3-1) vs. Gavin Stone (9-5)
Teoscar Hernandez Over 0.5 Home Runs
The 2024 Home Run Derby champion has been on a tear the last seven days, putting up some of the best numbers among all hitters in the league. The last five games Hernandez has nine hits, six of them being extra base hits and three being home runs. Phillies starter Tyler Phillips is coming off of a tough start against Seattle, where he gave up the long ball three times. Every home run given up was to a right handed batter, and Teoscar has five more home runs this season versus right handed pitchers opposed to left handed arms. Multiple home runs recently from Hernandez have been off of right handed pitching as well, and he’ll look to stay hot tonight and bounce back from their 6-2 loss from last night.
Detroit Tigers at Seattle Mariners
Tarik Skubal (12-4) vs. George Kirby (8-7)
Tarik Skubal Over 7.5 Strikeouts
Skubal has been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball this season and has been great recently. He’s tallied at least eight strikeouts in four of his last five starts, and looks to do the same here against Seattle. The Mariners strikeout more than any team in the MLB, with 1,165 strikeouts. Skubal has experience against some of the Mariners current roster as well, having 37 total at bats against Randy Arozarena, Jorge Polanco, Mitch Haniger, and Mitch Garver. In those at bats, Skubal has ten strikeouts and those opponents have a .243 average against him.
San Francisco Giants at Washington Nationals
Blake Snell (1-3) vs. Jake Irvin (8-9)
Blake Snell Over 6.5 Strikeouts
While the Nationals don’t strikeout much compared to other teams in the league, they’re facing a very tough pitcher in Blake Snell. Since July 14th Snell has been very good, going at least six innings in every start. In three out of four starts since July 14th, Snell has tallied at least eight strikeouts. The Nationals have won three of their last five, making this start for Blake Snell a very interesting one coming off of his no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds.
Los Angeles Angels at New York Yankees (game one of doubleheader)
Davis Daniel (1-2) vs. Luis Gil (11-5)
Davis Daniel Over 4.5 Hits Allowed
Besides his first start of the season being a great eight inning outing, Daniel has been underwhelming against below average teams. The Yankees have gotten it back together since their struggle through June and July, and look to keep that going with Davis Daniel and the Angels coming into the Bronx. Daniel’s given up at least five hits in his last three starts against the A’s and Rockies, and he could very well struggle against a rested Yankees lineup that’s been doing very well lately.
Bonus Pick: Cole Ragans Over 6.5 Strikeouts
The Red Sox rank third across the league in team strikeouts at 1,075.
