The St. Louis Cardinals activated a pair of new additions Thursday with right-handers Shawn Armstrong and Erick Fedde placed onto the active roster.
The club optioned rookie right-handers Michael McGreevy and Ryan Loutos to Triple-A Memphis.
Armstrong, 33, was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Dylan Carlson, while Fedde, 31, was acquired from the Chicago White Sox on Monday in a three-team deal.
Over 38 appearances (seven starts) this season, Armstrong was 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA. Over 10 seasons with five different clubs, Armstrong is 10-7 with a 4.18 ERA in 280 appearances (16 starts).
Fedde was 7-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts for the White Sox after pitching in South Korea last season. Over seven career MLB seasons for the Washington Nationals (2017-22) and White Sox, he is 28-37 with a 4.92 ERA in 123 appearances (109 starts).
Fedde is expected to make his Cardinals debut on Friday in a road start against the Chicago Cubs.
McGreevy, 24, made his major league debut Wednesday when he earned the win after giving up one run over seven innings against the Texas Rangers. Loutos, 25, has not given up a run in three career relief appearances.
