The Milwaukee Brewers activated newly-acquired right-hander Aaron Civale to the active roster Friday in advance of his club debut in a series-opening road game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Brewers optioned right-hander Janson Junk to Triple-A Nashville, while infielder Owen Miller was outrighted to Nashville.
Civale, 29, was acquired Wednesday from the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league infielder Gregory Barrios.
In 17 appearances (all starts) this season for the Rays, Civale is 2-6 with a 5.07 ERA. He signed a one-year, $4.9 million contract in January to avoid arbitration and won’t become an unrestricted free agent until the 2026 season.
In his career with the Cleveland Guardians (2019-23) and Rays (2023-24), Civale has started 103 games and has a 33-32 record and a 4.10 ERA.
Junk, 28, had a 9.00 ERA in three relief outings this season. In 12 appearances (seven starts) over parts of the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Angels and Brewers, Junk is 1-3 with a 5.35 ERA.
Miller, 27, was designated for assignment Monday and passed through waivers. The Wisconsin native is batting .239 with 15 home runs and 99 RBIs in parts of four major league seasons with the Guardians (2021-22) and Brewers.
