Saturday afternoon, the annual Futures Game is held, where teams get the chance to show off some of their farm systems’ top prospects. It’s a moment to commemorate the success that prospect has had in the farm so far, or a chance to get them in the national spotlight, to market to other organizations around the league. Above everything, it’s an amazing opportunity for these young players to get to play on a big stage before making their inevitable big league debuts.
Here’s a breakdown of the prospects selected from the National League West division.
Arizona Diamondbacks – Druw Jones OF – MLB #79 , Deyvison De Los Santos 1B/3B
Son of former big leaguer Andruw Jones, Druw Jones has been a name circulating through the minor leagues and the baseball world for a long time. Since being taken second overall by Arizona in 2022, Jones has hit for a .261 average across two levels. This year in A-ball Visalia, he’s hit .275 with an OPS of .805. Jones recorded four triples, and 12 doubles, while also tallying five home runs. One of baseball’s most exciting young talents, he’ll be a must watch from the outfield.
Deyvison De Los Santos is a more interesting selection for the Diamondbacks. The D-Backs 14th ranked prospect has torn it up this season across AA and AAA. In AA, De Los Santos hit .372 in 38 games with an OPS of 1.122 with 14 home runs. In 44 games in AAA Reno, he’s hit .297 with 13 home runs and a .951 OPS. Nearing a big league call up, De Los Santos has earned the shine here at the Futures Game.
Colorado Rockies – Chase Dollander RHP – MLB #36
Colorado sends their top prospect to the Futures Game to showcase the future on the mound at Coors Field. In High-A Spokane, Dollander has been nasty with a 2.83 ERA in 14 starts. He’s recorded 111 strikeouts to 28 walks, and his four pitch mix and electric fastball will be on full display. The Tennessee alum will showcase why he’s set to be a frontline starter for Colorado in this year’s game.
Los Angeles Dodgers – Thayron Liranzo C/1B, Jeral Perez – 2B
The Dodgers could be showcasing a couple of potential trade chips to the world, as both of these prospects haven’t been spectacular this season. While Perez has tallied an .835 OPS, Liranzo on the other hand has struggled in High-A, hitting .221 with a .718 OPS. While not the most exciting names, it’s a chance to further showcase the Dodgers depth in the farm.
San Diego Padres – Robby Snelling LHP – MLB #46, Ethan Salas C – MLB #6
Padres second best prospect Robby Snelling hasn’t been great in 2024. He has a 6.14 ERA in AA San Antonio, and opponents have a .305 average against him. Hopefully Snelling can get back on track in the second half, and showcase his three pitch mix from the left side today against some of the better prospects in the game.
The big name here is MLB Pipeline’s sixth best prospect, and Padres top prospect, Ethan Salas. Salas is just 18-years old right now in High-A Fort Wayne and has seen time in AA as well, but has struggled. Salas is currently hitting .197, with an OPS of .580. It’ll be interesting to see how the young phenom does, against some of the best pitching prospects in the game.
San Francisco Giants – Bryce Eldridge 1B – MLB #70
Rounding out the Futures rosters is Bryce Eldridge, San Francisco’s second ranked prospect. Across three levels Eldridge has hit .280, hitting .325 this season in 12 games in High-A. Eldridge looks to be a well polished hitter with high power upside, and him going deep in this year’s Futures Game is something to look out for.
